Windows Vista the upcoming (released to large business's) operating system. Feel free to post comments, tips, and questions about Windows Vista, and about accessible hardware/software that has been recently updated to suit Windows Vista's needs.
It would be interesting to see how Jaws will work with my Jaws and zoomtext software. I already know I will not like internet explorer 7. I've tried it out at home once and dind't like it at all.
I hate IE7. JFW 8 0 is accessible with win vista.
But I have no idea about zoomtext.
uh i am getting home premium vers www.windowsvista.com
I just hope our work gives us training on the thing. It would be frustrating getting customer calls about it and know nothing about it. I haven't upgraded to IE7 yet because of all the negativity I've heard about it.
Troy
want to upgrade but will not get it until I get JFW 8.0
Yeah i've disided that i'm going to put vista on this laptop over christmas
yeah im runnin one it came wit it
JAWS 8 does not support Windows Vista. From my understanding, Freedom will be releasing an upgrade during the first quarter of 2007 which support Vista. On the IE 7 front, you will want JAWS 8 for that. I have been using it for a month or so now and have no significant problems. Unless you use a lot of the new features, like tabbed browsing, IE 7 feels a lot like previous versions.
OMG they friggan said it would!!!
I use I E 7 with Jaws 7.10 and it works great. I'd like to know what people who've upgraded to Vista think please.
it sucks
What is new about Windows Vista anyway? And I have another question, lets say if you buy a new computer, and didn't want Vista on it, would you be able to put XP on that macine that already has Windows Vista on it? . I'd like this information. Thanks.
Dominique

Freedom Scientific has really dropped the ball. Gw Micro already has a public beta of Windoweyes 6.1 that works with Vista.
I have been a Jaws user for a long time, but I'm really starting to think about switching to Windoweyes. They always seem to be on the cutting-edge of technology. I think if blind and visually impaired people want to keep up with the constantly changing world of technology, our screen reader manufacturers have to be on the cutting-edge. If they aren't, we'll be left behind.
I'm not trying to slam Freedom, but I think they need to wake up, and prepare for the future.
That's just my 2 cents.
Earle
Yeah, I've been using WIndow eyes for like a month now, and I like that company. There really got the ball going. Its like one of the first probably the first companies that has support for Windows Vista. As for freedom scientific, its going to be a while before they can get support for it.
They have released a jfw8.0 upgrade automatic update to the 8.0 itself to like 8.0.437

Dominique,
You cannot get a Win XP computer, if you by a new machine. Best to buy a Windows XP Professional, Media Center Edition, or Home installation disk before Vista takes over the stores. It will probably be hard to find XP Setup disks online too now its 2nd of feb so yeah. That would be best if you want to stay back with xp.
Tristan
Yeah we went into besty buy yesterday one of the guys in my computer programming class aid that they are allready putting vista on all new machines and it was only realised this week.
my new laptop comes with vista. The first thing I am doing when I take it out of the box is wiping the harddrive and putting xp pro on it. I want nothing to do with vista for the time being.
Ahh, Liam, would you please elaborate on your distaste for Vista? I would honistly like to know what you don't like about it. I haven't seen it yet my self. Okay! I am waiting for Leopard on the Mac and guess I should know somethinkg about Vista right? Thanks.
ok. well. one of the main issues I have is the bombardment of drm. I believe that if your hardware doesn't support a certain drm thing the hardware can't be used. programs apparently now have to be digitally signed. I'm a little unclear on what this actually means, but I don't want to use an OS that my screen reader doesn't suport. I also will never install an OS as soon as it is released. Usually device drivers aren't updated and things don't work. And I don't believe that vista is bug-free either. I plan to wait a couple of years. Also, windows xp will be supported until 2013, so I've got 7 years to wait.
Ahh! very good points. Thanks.
freedom scientific is working on vista. and fuck window dies!
windoweyes has nothing on jaws. Jaws is way more responsive, while windoweyes is more stable. I'd rather have responsiveness over stableness. This is coming from someone who is using it on vista, but the speech has many long pauses when there's : , . , or - and frankly it's anoying. Jaws deals with this more reality like. As soon as 8.0.xxx comes out, I will be using jaws dominantly and never looking back. UAC, intergrated spyware protection, and a new start menu/look are amung the new features, as well as some some accessibility things inc. a new narator voice[yes!]. Overall, I've have no problems running any programs, accept jaws. I , on a wimm, decided to try installing the latest 8.x right now and the speech worked during install, but the prog wouldn't run after a reboot etc. So disapointing :D. .
can you brows the internet with the new version of narater?
Oo, I'm not sure about browsing the internet with Narater and Vista, but I just got a new wireless laptop ready for when I go to RNC in April. Only snag is, Windows Vista JAWS won't be released for another two/three weeks. We rang Sight and Sound Technology last Monday to check. Mum has however, rung them again to ensure I'm in the queue when it's released though.
Good point Liam!! JFW is awesome! Wineyes... whole new interface and way of navigating. I am getting Windows Vista as a express upgrade in march cause my new laptop came with a express upgrade. I will just keep the win vista disk until I feel fit too install Vista.
I am not touching Vista period. End of story. The DRM and the content protection don't sell this little Ogg Vorbis fan very well. Long live Windows XP, and long may free alternatives to Windows develop so that when it's time to upgrade, Linux will be ready. As for a Vista CD, I think a microwave is the proper place for it.
yeah nick. agree. i'm keeping xp as well. linix and mac sound better with the day.
hey guys, anthony put the vista cd in the paper shreder. hahahah it was funny. go to youtube or something and find the clip. it's good stuff.
by anthony i mean the anthony from O&A.
Yeah, Linux is going to be really good.
Gotta chime in here I'm waiting for Leopard on the Mac. should be out this spring and I am sure lots's of good things wil be happening with voiceover.
Then say good bye to jaws if you're going to switch to linux or mac. JAWS is deafinately better then any linux/mac screen readers are not yet good... like never tested a linux computer but i've tested the most recent mac and definitely mac's are not ready for voice over to be the main screen reader.

LOL!!! this website is funny!! go to
www.badvista.sf.org
they are campaigning against microsoft and vista.
Well I have had a couple of experiences with windows vista. Jaws 8.0 works with vista, I talked to gw micro to day about window eyes and they are still trying to work out all the bugs. So any 6.1 orders are on hold. as far as a computer technical/network admin perspecitive. I would have to say vista sucks and a lot of our tech guys are saying that it took me addleadt 10 minutes to find add remove programs. I would not reccommend vista to anyone. I know my gf is going to get a laptop soon and she said she wouldn't even put vista on it.
